We call it the wonderfruit.
There are fruits, and then there’s the coconut — a gift from nature so great, it's wonder-full — that's why we we call it the wonderfruit.
More than delicious (and they are that), coconuts are one of the most sustainable, versatile, and nutrient-rich foods on the planet. From the way it grows to the way every part of it can be used, the coconut is a symbol of natural ingenuity.
Sustainable and (bloody) resilient.
Coconuts are among the most sustainable crops to grow and farm, requiring minimal resources compared to many other fruit-bearing plants. Unlike water-intensive crops, coconut palms thrive in poor soil conditions, need far less water than conventional agriculture, and help prevent soil erosion by reinforcing coastal and tropical ecosystems.
Additionally, coconut trees are high-yielding and produce fruit year-round. A single tree can provide up to 75 coconuts per year without the need for replanting, making it a renewable and reliable resource. Farming coconuts contributes to supporting local communities in tropical regions, offering stable employment without the harmful deforestation associated with many other industries.
Wholly useful, zero-waste potential.
What truly makes the coconut a wonderfruit is its zero-waste potential. Every part of the coconut can be harvested and put to use, meaning nothing goes to waste:
- The hull and husk — used for making ropes, mats, brushes, and even biodegradable planting pots. The fibrous husk is also repurposed as an eco-friendly fuel source. Yes, fuel!
- The shell — a natural and sustainable alternative to plastic, coconut shells are turned into bowls, activated charcoal, and even organic fertiliser.
- The flesh — the rich, creamy white interior is used in everything from cooking and baking to plant-based dairy alternatives (even cheese!).
- The oil — extracted from the flesh, coconut oil has been all-the-rage among health and wellness communities for a long time — its currently trending as a super elixir due to its high MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) content.
- The water — pour it straight from the fruit to your mouth, coconut water is nature’s own sports drink.
Nutritional rich and wonder-full
The coconut isn’t just a sustainability GOAT — it’s also a powerhouse of nutrition and wellness. Here’s why we believe it’s one of nature’s greatest gifts:
- Nutrient-dense flesh — packed with healthy fats, dietary fibre, and antioxidants, coconut kernel (its "meat") is a satisfying and nourishing food that supports digestion and heart health.
- MCT-containing oil — coconut oil contains MCTs, which are quickly absorbed and used as a clean energy source by the body. MCTs are also known to support brain function and metabolic health.
- Mineral-rich water — coconut water is an all-natural electrolyte bomb, providing hydration and essential minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium.
- Natural skincare and haircare — from hydrating dry skin to strengthening hair, coconut-based products are popular for their moisturising and antibacterial properties.
At Coco Loco, we’re passionate about harnessing the power of the wonderfruit in a way that’s sustainable, ethical, and utterly delicious. Whether it’s in our beverages or in the way we do business, we believe that the coconut is more than just an ingredient — it’s a testament to nature and why it deserves our respect, protection and appreciation.
