What is Coco Loco? Australia's Only Brewed Alcoholic Coconut Water
Coco Loco is Australia's only brewed alcoholic coconut water: a hard seltzer made by fermenting real coconut water into alcohol, brewed in regional Victoria. Each 330ml can is 4% ABV (one standard drink), contains no more than 3.6g of sugar, and is gluten-free and vegan. It is not the rum cocktail; it is not a bar in Majorca. It is a can, and the can is the point.
Not a cocktail. Not a bar. Something better.
Search "coco loco" and you'll meet our namesakes: a 1970s rum-and-coconut cocktail served in a hollowed-out coconut, several beach bars across three continents, and at least one novelty song. Lovely company; nothing to do with us.
Coco Loco Hard Seltzer is a drink that did something nobody else bothered to do. Instead of pouring a spirit over coconut flavouring and calling it tropical, we ferment real coconut water; the yeast turns its natural sugars into alcohol the same way grapes become wine. The result is crisp, light and quietly proud of its ingredients list.
What makes Coco Loco different?
Brewed, not mixed. That's the whole argument, and it holds up under inspection.
Most coconut-flavoured alcoholic drinks are pre-mixed spirits: vodka or neutral alcohol, coconut flavouring, added sugar, carbonated water. Coco Loco starts with real coconut water and ferments it in temperature-controlled tanks in regional Victoria. Fermentation creates the alcohol and consumes most of the sugar on the way through; what's left is a clean base at 1.1g of sugar per 100ml, well under the FSANZ low sugar threshold. No artificial sweeteners; a touch of stevia rounds out the flavour.
The full production story is in our guide to alcoholic coconut water, and the side-by-side comparison lives in brewed vs spirit-mixed hard seltzer. Industry publication Drinks Trade has reviewed Coco Loco; we'll let the review do the talking.

The range: two flavours, one base
Every Coco Loco starts from the same brewed coconut water base. From there, two directions:
Piña Colada is the pineapple expression; fresh-cut pineapple rather than pineapple lolly, built for afternoons that run long.
Passion Spritz is tart, aromatic passionfruit; particularly good over ice, and the better aperitif of the two.
Undecided? The Mixed Pack settles it: both flavours, one decision. Both also moonlight as cocktail bases; our coconut water cocktails guide has six recipes worth making at home.

No. Coco Loco Hard Seltzer is a brewed alcoholic coconut water product, not the classic rum cocktail of the same name. The cocktail mixes rum with coconut cream; our drink ferments real coconut water into a light, low sugar hard seltzer.
